Chocolate Hazelnut Oatmeal with Pecans and Dried Cranberries

When I was younger, my Nana was the cute retired lady that gave out coupons and free samples at the grocery store. Sometimes she wasn’t able to go through all her samples and us grandchildren reaped the benefits of getting samples of cereal, gum, Poptarts and Nutella.

Oh my Nutella. It blew my mind that the Europeans had this crazy delicious chocolate hazelnut spread that they were allowed to eat for breakfast. I felt that I was cheated and that I should have been born in France or Italy instead of America. But, luckily we Americans fell in love with the chocolate spread and now you can buy it in just about any grocery store.

The other night, my friend bought us some crazy delicious house made country bread from Pizzeria Bianco.  They make the bread in their wood pizza oven and it is crispy on the outside and chewy with lots of air pockets on the inside.  It’s divine.  Anyway, we had that bread with our dinner the night before and there was only a couple of slices left for breakfast, so I slathered them with Nutella and gave the kids a breakfast treat.

Since I didn’t want to be left out, I thought I would swirl some into my oatmeal and convince myself that the chocolate was okay to eat at breakfast because I am chowing down some healthy oats to go with it.


Chocolate Hazelnut Oatmeal with Pecans and Dried Cranberries

  • 1/2 cup Dry Quick Cooking Oatmeal
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Milk Beverage (the beverage in the box, not in the can and not to be confused with coconut water)
  • 1 tbsp Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Pecans
  • 1 tbsp Dried Cranberries
  • Sprinkle of Salt
  1. Cook the oatmeal with the water and a sprinkle of salt according to your preferred method on the oatmeal box.
  2. Once cooked swirl in the Chocolate Hazelnut Spread and the Coconut Milk Beverage (or any “Milk” you desire)
  3. Top with the Chopped Pecans and Dried Cranberries

This is so good and satisfying and it still considered a healthy breakfast in my book…maybe just a little on the indulgent side.  Now go and make a family breakfast of your own…Clink!
